Previously, I found some grain mites in my aquarium. I was little bit surprised to find mites in the water. In fact, aquatic mites actual exist. The looks like the “daddy long legs” (with long legs and rounded body). I collected some pond water from Ronald Regan Park at Lawrenceville (GA, USA) when I stoped by the near by library. The water was full of tiny creatures. They are visible with naked eyes. I syphone up some water with pipet and dispense them in 96 well plates. I slightly over fill the well then place cover slide on top – so I won’t get bubble. A water mite was caught in a drop of water.
Water Mite Video
Video 1: The concaved slide does not have enough depth for the mite. It was stucked.
Video 2: The rear legs of the water mites seems to serve as a device for swimming.
Video 3: Once in a little while, this water mite will jump up and try to swim.
